Pride of the Inuit - East Greenland
It was in these Arctic waters that kayaking
was invented in order to more efficiently hunt seals
and small whales. This sea kayaking and trekking adventure will
be challenging, and an expeditionary spirit and a flexible attitude
are required. There is truly no better way to experience this
region and it’s wealth of culture than with our friends
at Explorer’s Corner.
Join a small group of explorers who will paddle
and hike Greenland’s remote and wild Eastern Coast in the
high arctic summer. Without exception, all of our co-explorers
have been amazed by the pristine natural world at the Sermiliq/Tassilaq
Fjord complex in Eastern Greenland. The Greenland ground blueberries,
mushrooms, and arctic flowers are plentiful. During the journey,
discover old Eskimo ruins, and visit local Inuit Communities.
Delight in the wild patterns the sun makes in the 24 hour lit
sky.
Greenland’s Eastern Fjords have some of the best kayaking
conditions in the Arctic, where protective high mountains tower
over deep fjords. The landscape is both beautiful and diverse,
supporting the Inuit communities who sustain their lives in this
stunning natural world.
Our group of adventurers will hike and paddle on Greenland’s
remote Eastern coast, where few Westerners have ever
been. We begin at the western edge of Tassilaq Island and work
our way East through an archipelago, finishing the journey near
the tiny hamlet of Sermiligaq. The total paddling distance will
be 80-100 nautical miles, depending on weather and sea conditions.
