Trip Details

This itinerary is a sample only - the exact itinerary of your trip will be dictated by factors such as weather, tides, and group interest, with the guides working within the parameters of safety, time, and the highlights of the area.

Day 0

Leave your hometown to fly to Keflavik/Iceland, however, we do recommend to arrive in Iceland a day or two earlier to allow extra time for possible flight delays, etc. - we are happy to assist with booking extra hotel nights.

Day 1

Arrive in Iceland at Keflavik International Airport. Transfer on your own to Reykjavik the same morning. Catch early noon flight to Kulusuk Island, Greenland. From Kulusuk, we will board a small boat that will motor us 1 ½ to 2  hours over to Tassilaq (Ammassalik), which is the small Administrative Center of Eastern Greenland (if the ice situation is severe, we might have to take a helicopter instead). If time permits, we will visit the local museum, and hear Eskimo tales in the sod house. That evening we will stay at a small pension in town and have a briefing on the next two weeks of our adventure.
Accommodation: at the Red House, Tassilaq
Meals: lunch, dinner

Day 2

A 6-8 hour hike or, alternatively, a boat transport of the group, the kayaking equipment, and the food near to Ikateq Island (if the ice situation permits, we will start there. Otherwise we might have to motor deeper into the Sermiliq Fjord). That evening we assemble our boats and discuss safety and trip dynamics.
Accommodation: wilderness camping
Meals: breakfast  /  lunch  /  dinner

Day 3 – 13

Expeditionary kayaking/camping from Sermiliq Fjord/Ammassalik Fjord/Knud Rasmussen Glacier at the bottom of Sermiligaq Fjord. Re-supply at the village of Kummiut, halfway through the trip.
Accommodation: wilderness camping
Meals: breakfast  /  lunch  /  dinner

Day 14

Pick up by motor boat at the mighty Knud Rasmussen Glacier and return to Tassilaq. Afternoon sightseeing of the small town and Inuit souvenir shopping.
Accommodation: at the Red House, Tassilaq
Meals: breakfast  /  lunch  /  dinner

Day 15

A boat ride of 1 1/2 to 2 hours brings us back to Kulusuk (if severe ice situation does not allow for boating we will have to take a helicopter) and flight to Reykjavik, Iceland. Farewell dinner in Reykjavik in local pub.
Accommodation: local Hotel in Reykjavik/Iceland
Meals: breakfast  /  lunch  /  dinner

Day 16

Morning at leisure in Reykjavik. Shuttle bus to Keflavik International airport (on your own) and afternoon flight homeward.
