Port Hardy is the closest airport to Telegraph Cove. A 1.15 hour flight from Vancouver International Airport’s South Terminal, scheduled flights are operated by Pacific Coastal Airlines.
Once you’ve landed in Port Hardy, it’s a 45-minute taxi ride to Telegraph Cove. If you spend the night before your trip in Port McNeill, it’s approx. 30 minutes.
BC Ferries connects the Lower Mainland of British Columbia with Vancouver Island. Scheduled ferries run from Vancouver to Nanaimo and Victoria. If you’re originating in Washington State simply take the Coho Ferry to Victoria. Drive time from Victoria to Telegraph Cove is 5.5 hours, and 4 hours from Nanaimo to Telegraph Cove.
You should plan on arriving at Telegraph Cove one night before your Orca Camp adventure begins. In case you can’t find accommodations in Telegraph Cove, options in the area are Hidden Cove, Hyde Creek, the town of Port McNeill, Cluxewe and the town of Port Hardy. Do not stay on any of the nearby islands that rely on ferry service pre-trip, because you may miss your watertaxi into Orca Camp on the first day of your trip due to bad weather.
