Why Ecosummer Tours?

Making Memories for Over 45 Years

We’ve been turning moments in nature into memories you’ll never forget for over 45 years. Fuelling your passion for adventure is at the very heart of our business. Ecosummer was established in 1976 and is proud to be one of the first kayaking companies on the BC coast.

No length is too great to go to help travelers discover the BC wilderness. With every trip we lead, we aim to create a meaningful and authentic travel experience that puts you in touch with Canada’s raw and rugged wilderness, safely, securely and comfortably.

With our unique itineraries, our top-notch experts, and a robust network of resources, we have the privilege of offering you exceptional travel experiences that go beyond the ordinary. So, why book an Ecosummer adventure? Here are just a few reasons:

Robson Bight Basecamp’s Unrivalled Location and Old Growth Forests

More than 400 meters (1,000 feet) of unspoiled, exclusive beachfront - situated on the periphery of a mild coastal rainforest - on the Western boundary of the Robson Bight (Michael Biggs) Ecological Reserve - adjacent to the traditional feeding and breeding grounds of Orcas - featuring its own natural, freshwater stream flowing through its expanse - quite simply, there is no superior camp location anywhere on the Johnstone Strait for immediate and unhindered access to Killer Whales. Our Camp is positioned on the western side of the Robson Bight Ecological Reserve. While other basecamps can be found on the Eastern side of the boundary, they lack the privilege of being able to explore the Boat Bay Conservancy or Blackney Passage by paddle. Our campsite is nestled amidst an ancient old-growth forest, offering two meandering creeks that provide a constant supply of fresh water year-round. Unlike the rest of the Johnstone Strait and its surroundings, which have been subjected to logging, we are fortunate to be in close proximity to an ecological reserve that boasts trees over 600 years old, beneath which you have the opportunity to camp. Additionally, our basecamp ensures utmost privacy, as no other kayakers camp within 3-4 kilometers of our location, providing a true wilderness experience. Most other kayaking basecamps are in close proximity to other campsites and are less fortunate in terms of that sense of seclusion amidst the wilderness.

Most Experienced Guides in the Area

We take great pride in the exceptional expertise of our guides, who are the most experienced in the area. Our owners are esteemed Guide Trainers and Examiners for the Sea Kayak Guides Alliance of BC, and we devote considerable time to training our staff extensively in the Johnstone Strait before the season commences. In fact, we boast the largest team of Level III guides in the Johnstone Strait, with a combined wealth of over 50+ years of guiding experience in this region. Unlike any other company in the area, our guides reside in Telegraph Cove, immersing themselves in the surroundings and becoming intimately familiar with the area. Through regular communication on the water and around the campfire, our guide network shares their knowledge and insights, ensuring that we provide you with a truly exceptional experience. Our commitment to showcasing our home and its abundant wildlife sets us apart.

Adventure Travel Tailored to You

Whether you're enthralled with whales, a budding photographer, a natural history lover, a parent looking for a great family trip, or a traveler seeking an active adventure, you'll find an Ecosummer adventure that suited to your interests and abilities.

Price and Value

We believe wilderness adventures should be shared by the entire family. We work to make family adventure travel affordable with special pricing for children over the age of eight.

We also believe that traveling with friends is one of life’s greatest joys – and if you’re traveling with the entire clan, inquire about group discounts – we offer those as well!

Real Food Made by Real People

Wherever food is included on an Ecosummer adventure you can rest assured it is real food prepared by real people – no dehydrated packaged food pouches on our trips! Count on healthy, wholesome and hearty fare to fuel your day’s adventure.

Environmental Sustainability

Every Ecosummer expedition takes place in a raw and rugged wilderness setting, each with its own fragile ecosystem. We strive to minimize our environmental impact while maximizing your adventure. We pack out everything we pack in and local regulations require that you to do the same. We bear proof our camps, use only environmentally friendly cleaning materials, re-use, recycle, and compost wherever possible.

Unexpected Moments

We know some of the best moments in travel occur when you least expect them. So that you can savor these instances and enjoy each place in a way that’s meaningful to you, we offer options and build free time into our itineraries wherever we can.
